GREYTOWN
HOCKEY NOTES | (“Times-Age” Special.) The last round of the Ladies’ Association’s championship competitions was concluded on Saturday when the local team met Carterton at Carterton and won by 1 goal to nil. The game was fairly evenly' fought with Greytown having the advantage by reason of better combination. On both sides passing was somewhat misdirected, too many passes being made right straight at the feet of opponents. The Greytown inside forwards did not play with their usual understanding, but the rough surface of the ground was against accurate pick-ups. , The fullback-goalie line displayed good combination although they and the half-backs tended to bunch at times. A very good exhibition was given by I. Svenson at right-half. All the halves however, remained too far back when their team was on attack. P. Sugrue, at left half, is developing well and shows generally a good understanding of the requirements of this position. A very pleasing feature of the local . team’s play is the way in which they are able to keep going throughout. As far as the championship is concerned, the Greytown ladies have every reason to be pleased with this year’s effort.. Out of fourteen games they won twelve, drew one and lost one, their only defeat being at the hands of Excelsior who ran out the winners. The local club extends its congratulations to the winning team. When it is considered that Greytown did not field a team last year, the season’s success has been all the more pleasing. The most gratifying aspect of all, however, has been the way in which the team has turned out to practice." and to team talks, and assembled for their matches. Their prospects for the Kia Toa Cup knock-out competition which will commence next Saturday are as good as any other team's. After having gone to some trouble to have the local ground prepared for Saturday, and after the team has already travelled twice, the local team is being asked to travel again. The local fa.gjrls travel 7 times to any Masterton ■snwteam’s twice, and besides that, all trial and similar games are held in Master■> ton. The association should recognise the justice of the southerners claim to better travelling treatment.
