CARTERTON
RUGBY UNION FINAL MEETING OF THE SEASON. ("Times-Age” Special.) The final meeting of the Management Committee of the Wairarapa Rugby Football Union for the season will be held tonight at 7.30 o’clock. BUILDING SOCIETY DISPOSAL OF MONEY. A meeting of the Wairarapa Terminating Building Society was held in the P. and A. rooms, Carterton, last evening. Mr L. H. Smart presiding. As no tender was received for an appropriation, a ballot was taken for £3OO, Mrs Bredin (holding two shares) being the winner. Mr W. Vaughan received the remaining £3OO with the option of taking up a further £3OO at the next allocation. Personal Items. Mr Ben Roberts, M.P. for Wairarapa, is visiting Napier. Magistrate’s Court. The monthly sitting of the Carterton Magistrate’s Court will be held on Wednesday next at 2.15 p.m. There are a number of cases set down for hearing. Good Fruit Prospects. Pear trees in Carterton are in bloom at the present time and present indications suggest a good harvest. Apple trees are also in full bloom in many gardens. Card Party. There was a large attendance at the weekly card party held by the Boy Scouts for patriotic purposes. The prizes were won as follows: Ladies, Mrs Pawhai 1, Mrs F. Jackson 2. Men’s section: Mr P. Hodder 1, Miss G. Bradbury 2. Postal Box Damaged. This morning the Carterton Post Office officials received information that the posting letter box in Kent Street had been torn from the telegraph post where it was attached. It is stated that the destruction may have been caused by cattle.
