TERRITORIAL BALLOT
MAY BE COMPLETED TODAY. (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. Such good progress was made yesterday with the ballot for men for Territorial service, now being drawn in ’Wellington, that it is hoped to complete the draw/today. On the first day, Tuesday, 4800 names were drawn from the register for the Auckland, Paeroa and Whangaiei districts. Yesterday the entire quotas for the Hamilton, Wellington, Wanganui and Napier areas, amounting to 5650 men, were drawn; and if this rate is maintained there is a possibility that the draw will finish this afterneon. There are approximately 5550 more names to be drawn, mostly from the Southern Military District. It is pointed out that even the Tuesday total was greater than that of all the men selected by the first four days of balloting for reinforcements during the Great War; but there the position was complicated by the overlapping with the voluntary system of enlistment. The speedy balloting is due to the efficient and smooth-running organisation which has been set up in the National Service Department. So far the ballot has been conducted without the slightest hitch, and certainly without the need of redrawing any section.
