An American commentator on the German radio, dealing with last night’s R.A.F. raid, said single and small formations of Britishers never seemed to stop coming. They dived to below a thousand feet. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 1.20 p.m.) RUGBY, September 24. During the morning two enemy formations consisting of bombers escorted by large numbers of fighters made attacks across the Kent coast and in the area of the Thames Estuary. Neither force penetrated to London. Some bombs were dropped on Thamesside towns and a number of districts in east Kent. Damage was caused to houses and buildings, but the number of casualties was small. Early in the afternoon an enemy attack was made in the Southampton area. Some buildings were damaged, and a number of casualties were caused. The enemy activity was not on a large scale, but in attacks by single aircraft bombs were dropped in a number of districts, including Brighton. Damage was caused to houses and business premises, and a number of casualties is reported. Of four of our fighters lost, the pilots of two are safe. It is now established that two enemy bombers were shot down by anti-aircraft guns on Monday night.
