WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Women's Institute held its monthly meeting in the Memorial Hall, Mrs Spices presiding over a large attendance. A very interesting talk by Miss Cock on her experiences abroad was listened to with much interest. The speaker was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. A competition for a madeira cake was won by Mrs Spicer, with Mrs Atkinson second. The “word competition” was won by Miss Cock with Mesdames Veitch and M. McLeod (equal) second. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Tilson, Macdonald and Seward. Personal Items. Mr Gilbert Munro, an erstwhile resident of this district for many years, has again taken up residence here. Mr Alf. Grigg, who has resided here for some years, will leave shortly for military training for overseas service. Miss Christina Enoka has returned to Dannevirke. Miss Makere Hutana. Invercargill, is visiting her mother, Mrs Bragg. Mr and Mrs Veitch, Masterton, are staying with Mr and Mrs Marshall, Kaikaru. Mrs Cherry, Wellington, was the guest of Mrs Sutton over the weekend. Mr Noel Duggan, who was to have entered camp recently, is staying with his father. Miss Betty Sutton was the guest of Mrs Cherry, Wellington, for a few days. Mrs A. Te Maari Junr., is visiting relatives in Tologa Bay. Miss Anker. Greytown, has been appointed sole teacher at the Tuhitarata School. Flounders and Whitebait. Flounders and whitebait are being caught at the Lake Ferry in fairly large quantities. Motor Accident. A local motorist met with an accident late on Saturday evening when his machine ran off the road opposite the Kohunui settlement, and embedded itself in the mud. It was with some difficulty that the car was extricated. Fortunately no damage was done. At that spot the ground is very soft. London Distress Fund. Due to the fact that other districts are helping to raise funds for sufferers in the London raids, the committee of the local Women’s Institute at its monthly meeting decided to assist in the appeal.
