CARD PARTY IN AID OF SOLDIERS' COMFORTS FUND. ~A- (“Times-Age” Special.) Z There was a large attendance at the Band Room on the occasion of the weekly card tourney held in aid of the fund for soldiers’ comforts. The winners of the prizes were: —Ladies: Mrs W. Ticehurst. 1; Mrs F. Jackson, 2. Men: Mr P. Goodin. 1; Mr Ticehurst, 2. The function on Saturday evening next will be in aid of the London Distress Appeal, and as the cause is a worthy one it is hoped there will be a large attendance. Good prizes and supper will be provided. ORDER OF DRUIDS MEETING OF TOTARA LODGE. A well attended meeting of Totara Lodge U.A.O.D. was held last night, Arch. Druid Bro. W. Fryer being the presiding officer. The Social Security Department forwarded sick allowances on account of two members who were recently in hospital. One benefit member was initiated into the Order, receiving the usual welcome from the presiding officer. It was reported that Bro. E. Matson, who has been in the Masterton Hospital for some time, had sufficiently recovered to leave the institution. Lodge sick pay and Social Security sick pay amounting to £37 Is 4d were passed for payment. Grand Lodge advised that the Grand Lodge meeting to have been held in March, 1941. had been postponed by a vote of the lodges till March, 1943. FIRE BRIGADE EMERGENCY REGULATIONS. A special meeting of the Carterton Volunteer Fire Brigade was held last evening, Deputy Superintendent J. H. Churchouse presiding over a full attendance. The meeting was called for the I purpose of discussing emergency regulations. The members went fully into the matter, and it is understood they will make a report to a meeting to be next week of the Emergency Re- ' gulations Committee. Admiral Run Bridge. The timber and material have been 1 carted to the site of the new bridge on 1 the Admiral Road, and the county em- 1 ployee-: have commenced work on the structure. The bridge should prove a boon to the settlers in the district. Personal. Mr Alf. Hansen, of Carterton, who has been in the Greytown Hospital where he underwent an operation, has returned to his home.
