THREE-YOKED EGG

LAID BY MASTERTON HEN. A White Leghorn hen that is doing her best to increase production is owned by Mrs W. Simpson, of Cornwall Street, Masterton. The hen’s performances in egg laying are somewhat remarkable. Every other day she lays a double-yoked egg and occasionally adds a single-yoked one on an off day. The other morning, however, she had a bigger surprise in store when she produced an oversize egg containing three yokes. This egg weighed eight ounces and measure 4in in length. It was flattened at both ends, so much so that the egg would stand on either end. The hen responsible for this feat is 21 years old.
