The Domei news agency reports that residents on the slopes of Mount Asodake have hardly seen the sun since August 24. The volcano has been almost constantly belching ashes following a 53-year-period of dormancy. The people carry raised umbrellas as a protection. The crops of 13 villages have been destroyed.
