WHITE BUTTERFLY

WILL SOON APPEAR IN GARDENS. The White Butterfly will soon be seen in local gardens. As each insect destroyed now may mean a huge decrease in numbers later on it will be wise to destroy as many as possible early in the season. These insects have hatched out from the grub which has hibernated during the winter and are on the wing with the intention of depositing eggs on cabbage which will soon develop into the winged insect. Derris Dust sprinkled over the cabbage* is a remedy and being a poison will kill in the grub stage. Spraying with salt and water is also a preventative though not a killer. The mild winter may have suited this and other pests and growers should be on their guard early and attack before the pest is too numerous.
