FOSTER MOTHERS
SOLDIERS CARRY FRENCH BABY HUNDRED MILES. Following the German attack of Abbeville 15 soldiers of the Queen’s Regiment acted as foster mothers to a nine-months-old unknown French child, Private Sidney Bully told nis family in London, says the “Daily Herald.” The corporal in charge of the party said to the men: “Each of you carries the baby for 20 minutes. After that hand it over to the next man. Let’s get going.” For five days and nights, travelling more than 100 miles, the 15 fugitives protected the baby.
