A thousand Japanese troops crossed over the Indo-China frontier at Dongdang, but withdrew after a French protest. The French are still firmly opposing Japanese attempts to gain a free hand in Indo-China. The Japanese apologised swiftly when the French threatened to abandon negotiations.
