HORSES FOR CAMP

FIRST APPEAL TO WAIRARAPA FARMERS. MOUNTS FOR TAUHERENIKAU. Farmers in the Wairarapa have responded to the initial appeal by the Defence authorities to supply horses for the training of Territorials. This week nearly 40 horses are being sent to the Tauherenikau Racecourse, where officers and n.c.o.’s of the Wellington East Coast Mounted Rifles are encamped. It is expected that a much larger number of horses will be required later in the year, when troopers will go into camp. A complete organisation has been set up throughout the Wairarapa by the Farmers’ Union to meet any demands for the supply of horses, and it is not antciipated that there will be any difficulty in fulfilling requirements when a further call is made.
