The Lord President of the Council, Mr Neville Chamberlain, has returned to work after his recent opefation, a London cablegram states. The death occurred at Makomako yesterday of a well-known settler in the person of Mr James Corkill, at the age of 84 years. Sergt.-Major C. E. Rogers, ,who left Masterton recently io go into camp at Wanganui, is a patient in Masterton Hospital. A well-known resident of the Otane district, Hawke’s Bay, Mr John Mackenzie, has died in Waipukurau Hospital at the age of 60 years. He had no relatives in New Zealand. There was a large attendance at the funeral of Miss Annie McLachlan, which took place at the Clareville Cemetery yesterday, following a service held in the Masterton Knox Church. Services were conducted by the Rev John Davie. Many beautiful floral tributes were received. The pall-bearers were Messrs N. Harvey, W. McPhee, T. M. Harvey, H. A. McPhee, A. M. McPhee and E. D. McLachlan. At the annual meeting and conference of the North Island Professional Photographers’ Association held in Palmerston North, the following officers were elected: —Patron, Mr H. E. Gaze (Hamilton), president, Mr A. B. Hurst (Napier), vice-presidents, Messrs Spencer Digby (Wellington), B. Hobday (Feilding), and J. E. Lewis (Palmerston North); committee, Mrs Marie Dean (Wellington), Messrs J. Swainson (New Plymouth), M. L. Lampe (Wanganui), E. Andrew (Wellington), Crichton (Auckland), J. S. N. Potts (Dannevirke), and P. H. Jauncey (Wellington); secretary and treasurer, Mr R. Keys (Hastings). The funeral of the late Miss Jean McMaster, which took place yesterday afternoon, was largely attended, there being a representative attendance of mourners. Wreaths were sent, besides others, by the following: Directors and management of the W.F.C.A., Ltd.; staff of the W.F.C.A., Ltd., Masterton; garage, produce and outside staff of W.F.C.A., Ltd.; staff of W.F.C.A., Ltd., Wellington; W.F.C.A., Ltd., Social Club; Wairarapa Interhouse Association; Savings Bank staff, Chief Post\ Office, Wellington; Riverside Golf Club; members of Park Croquet Club; Monday Afternoon Circle of St Matthew’s Ladies’ Guild; staff of Page’s and Mr Brickman and staff. The Ven Archdeacon E. J. Rich, assisted by the Rev V. W. Joblin, conducted the service at the residence and the burial service at the cemetery. Messrs C. L. Wilton, S. Taylor, G. Daubney, H. Keisenberg, D. Hogg and J. Tweddell were the pall-bearers. In recognition of his work for the success of the National Eucharistic Congress, held in Wellington in February, the Rev Dr A. J. Mcßae has had bestowed upon him by the Holy See the title of Monsignor. Monsignor Mcßae recently relinquished the position of Administrator of the parish of St Joseph, after holding it for 12 years, to devote the fullest time and energy to being secretary to his Grace Archbishop O’Shea and Chancellor of the Archdiocese. The Rt Rev Monsignor Mcßae has had a distinguished career in the archdiocese. He was born in New Zealand and educated in New Zealand Catholic schools. He entered Holy Cross College, Mosgiel. and after completing his studies there was sent to Washington for four years, where he took his degree as doctor of philosophy. On his return to Wellington he was appointed to St Joseph's Church. Buckle Street, eventually being appointed administrator of the parish and chancellor of the archdiocese.
