WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
SOLWAY-MANAIA. COMPETITION WINNERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mrs McGovern, vice-president, presided over a fair attendance of members of the Solway-Manaia Institute held on Thursday. The meeting opened with the singing of “Comrades and Friends,” followed by the Aspirations and Qde to Friendship. Mrs McGovern welcomed the members. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Munn, McAlichael, Catherall Senr., and Miss McAllister. A dainty afternoon tea was served by the hostesses. Miss Wolters gave an interesting report on the general council meeting. The roll call “Scotch Jokes,” was well responded to by members. Competition for next month are: — Cooking, shortbread; flowers, anenomes. The tea hostesses will be Miss Billington, Mesdames Cotton, Cornick and Crewe. Roll call: Question box. The results of the competitions were: —Flowers: Mrs Cotton, 1; Mrs Reynolds, 2. Daffodil: Mrs WooHett, 1; Mrs Reynolds, 2; Mrs Cotton, 3. Pikelets: Mrs Reynolds, 1; Mrs McGovern, 2. The meeting was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem.
