SHOW AFFAIRS
MASTERTON ASSOCIATION REMIT REGARDING CORRIEDALES. SUB-COMMITTEES ELECTED. There was a good attendance at a general committee meeting of the Masterton A. and P. Association, held in the Farmers’ Rooms last night. The president, Mr R. E. Gordon Lee was in the chair. Several apologies for absence were received. Prioi - to the commencement of business those present stood in silence as a mark of respect when a motion of condolence was passed to Mesdames G. Masters. W. Rayner and Mr C. N. Stilborn in their recent bereavements. The Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society wrote challenging the men’s committee to a tug-o-war match stating that it was understood tha: there was a cup for a match of this kind which had been donated several years ago. The challenge was accepted and the secretary, Mr R. H. Williams produced a cup which was competed for ano won by Master ton 14 years ago but had not been competed for since. The selection of a team was left in the hands of the president and the secretary to arrange. The New Zealand Milking Shorthorn Association wrote stating that prizes of one guinea had been donated to the association for the yearling heifer and yearling bull classes. The letter was received with thanks. Advice was received from the Nev Zealand Meat Board stating that the district lamb competition for export lambs would be carried on as usual. The New Zealand Hereford Breeders’ Association wrote stating that it had been decided to donate £2 2s tc the association to be allotted to any class which was though fit.
Six resignations were accepted and four new members were elected. Sir William Perry wrote acknowledging his re-election as patron of the Association. A letter of importance to Corriedale sheep breeders was received from the New Zealand Society, which statec that the following remit was passed a' the annual meeting of the Royal Show Society: “No sheep shown in the wool shall have been shorn earlier than September 15 in the year immediately preceding the show at which the sheep are exhibited and in the shorn sheep classes no sheep shall be shorn earlier than September 15 preceding the date of the show.” It was decided to adopt the remit and give effect to its proposals at the next autumn show.
