CHRISTMAS CHEER STREET COLLECTION YESTERDAY. (“Times-Age” Special.) Under the supervision of Mesdames Jf. Boyne and H. E. Ordish, assisted by -<?flrs R. J. Grimmer, the Carterton District Patriotic Committee held a street collection yesterday for the purpose of obtaining money and kind for Christmas parcels to be sent overseas to New Zealand soldiers.- The result of the collection must be considered satisfactory in the circumstances. The sum aFJf £25 Os 7d was raised. Those who ivish to contribute to the fund can lo so by getting into touch with the Mayor,, the Town Clerk, or any member of the committee. Messrs F. Court and A. E. Hall, members of the committee, volunteered to make a canvas at the weekly stock sale held yesterday and the result was very satisfactory. Intercession Service. Members of the various religious denominations in Carterton and district will hold an intercession service in the Regent Theatre, Carterton, at 7 o’clock tomorrow evening. It is anticipated that there will be a large congregation. Ministers of the various denominations will preside. Footballers’ Dance. The Carterton Football club's championship dance will be held in the King’s Theatre, Carterton, on Monday night. The function is being held to celebrate Carterton Football. Club’s double -victory in winning both the senior and junior championships this year. During the evening members cf the Wairarapa Rugby Football Union will present, the trophies won, including the Dewar Shield. Visitors from all parts of the district have signified their intention of being present and the dance promises to be a most enjoyable one. Church Service. A Church of England service will be held at Gladstone at 11 a.m. and at Parkvale at 2 p.m. tomorrow. The Rev. W. F. Stent will be the preacher. Methodist Ladies’ Guild. The Methodist Ladies Guild held a meeting to make arrangements in conection with their annual Daffodil Fair on. Friday, September 13. There will be the usual display of bulbs from Middle Run, besides various stalls and luncheon and afternoon tea. Heavy Rain. Very heavy rain has been falling in Carterton all the morning. As a result creeks and rivers have begun to rise. Enquiries made as to the state | of the Waiohine River elicited the fact that although there is a fresh in the river, there is no sign of flooding. Personals. Mrs and Miss Daniel, of Khandallah, who have just returned from England, are the guests of Mrs W. C. Deller, Park Road, Carterton. Mr R. Nunn, who has been in the Masterton Hospital, returned home yesterday.
