HEAVY RAIN

STREAMS RISING RAPIDLY. POSITION IN TE ORE OREBIDEFORD AREA. Sheets of surface water lay in paddocks and creeks were overflowing at Te Ore Ore early this afternoon. “Heavy rain has been incessant here for the past 16 hours, and at the moment shows no signs of abating." a resident reported by telephone this afternoon. The Raumahangn River was slightly discoloured and there was little increase so far in the volume of waler. In summer carrying only a trickle, the Wangaehu River at 2 p.m. was rising’ rapidly to within a foot of topping its banks. Streams of water were forming and rushing down from Bennett's Hill and the Maungahina Hills to swell the creeks.

In the Bideford district the rain has been steady all night and this afternoon was becoming heavier.
