PLEDGED BV AMERICAN LABOUR NEW YORK RESOLUTION. MR ERNEST BEVIN’S REPLY. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, September 5. The Executive Council oE the New York State Federation of Labour cabled the British Minister of Labour, Mr Ernest Bevin : “As the workers of Britain stand united in the heroic defence of their homes and freedom against the tVranny of Nazism and Fascism at a critical hour, the the New York Labour Convention, now assembled, sends words of fraternal greetings and solidarity. “We believe that British Labour, in co-operation with the people of Britain, will be victorious in its fight for freedom, justice and democracy. We pledge you our fullest moral support. Your defeat would be an irreparable disaster to liberty-loving people everywhere. Your victory will be victory for all mankind.” Mr Bevin replied: “Please thank New York Labour and all friends and colleagues for the inspiring message of goodwill and solidarity. All trade unionists worthy of tradition and historical purpose must take a stand with the British Commonwealth and its Allies in this, the world’s greatest hour. "The evil one is held in check by the bravery of their forces. With you responding to the fullest and speediest extent in materials and munitions, he will soon be in the retreat. The spirit of our people is wonderful; they are responding like a nation reborn, strong, vigorous, confident. A great victory awaits the combined forces fighting for liberty and social justice.
