SALE OF PETROL
SINGLE STANDARD GRADE HENCEFORTH STORAGE AND TRANSPORT ECONOMY. ANNOUNCEMENT BY COMPANIES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The oil companies announced today that in order to make the utmost possible use of the storage space for petrol available in New Zealand, and to facilitate a quicker turn round of tankers, there would be only one grade of petrol sold by each company after today. Under the new scheme it will be possible to co-ordinate the various systems and thus to enable the storage of much larger quantities. The companies have worked out a plan for the storage and exchange of stocks at all ocean terminals which will result in a reduction of the time spent by tankers in New Zealand waters. A majority of the trips will be arranged so that there will be only one port of call. The statement points out that there are several million gallons of super grade in stock and this will be mixed with standard grade in approximately equal proportions. This mixture will be sold at a price increased by a halfpenny a gallon until it is exhausted. The standard grade will then come into full effect at a half-penny less. Super grade stocks will not be replaced. In regard to super grade at present held by retailers, this will be sold at the present ruling prices. The new arrangement has the approval of the Oil Controller and the necessary regulations have been gazetted.
