PRINCESSES ACT
APPEARANCE AT CONCERT. Queen Elizabeth and her daughters, Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret, enthusiastically assisted at a concert in the village where the Royal children are staying. The entertainment was . given in the village schoolroom to raise money to buy comforts for mine-sweeper crews. The princesses tap-danced and sang with evacuee children from the East End of London and the village, reports the “Daily Mail.” Her Majesty sat in the front row of the audience and during the interval talked with other mothers sitting around her, congratulating several on the performance of their children. Princess Elizabeth gave two solo dances and a recitation. Princess Margaret danced and, with her sister, took part in sketches with other children and in a ballet number “An apple for the teacher.” In a sketch from Alice in Wonderland, the Princess took the part of the Dormouse. The number was greatly appreciated by the Queen. Princess Margaret gave a piano solo and the Royal sisters concluded with a joint tap dance. The audience numbered about 70. The piano was the only musical instrument, and was played by the village schoolmaster. No costumes were worn, and curtains answered for scenery. The programme lasted 90 minutes.
