WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
MONTHLY MEETINGS. MT. BRUCE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The members of the Mt. Bruce Women’s Institute held their monthly meeting at Mrs C. J. Campbell’s residence. Mrs H. West presiding. A letter of thanks was received from Mr and Mrs J. J. Barnes and family for a parcel sent to their son James, who is on active service. The competition, an article from 2 skeins of wool for a refugee or soldier was won by Miss M. West with a knitted helmet. Miss M. Reader gained first and second prizes in the bloom competition. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the hostess. TINUI. PRIZE-WINNERS FOR MONTH. (“Times-Age” Special.) • The Tinui Women's Institute meeting was held in the local hall on Tuesday. Mrs I. Speedy presided, there being a fair attendance of members. The meeting opened with the singing of “Comrades and Friends.” and then the saying of the Aspirations and Prayer for Peace. Miss Wolters, Carterton, gave a very interesting talk on the interests and the patriotic aims of the institutes, and also an account of the recent Dominion Council meeting held in Wellington. On behalf of the members Mrs Speedy thanked Miss Wolters and presented' her with a shoulder spray. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs Voss and Misses Owen and Atack. The competitions resulted as follows: —Best bloom: Miss O. Owen, 1; Miss P. French, 2; Miss P. French, 3. Aphgans: Mrs Street. 1; Mrs O’Hara, 2; Miss O. Owen, 3. child’s frock: Mrs Beck, 1; Mrs Street, 2; Mrs O’Hara, 3. The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
