MAURICEVILLE WEST
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE THIS WEEK’S MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Mauriceville District Women’s Institute meeting was held in the Foresters’ Hall on Tuesday. Mrs I. Cameron presided over a large attendance of members and visitors. It was decided that all members plant three potatoes before the end of September for the potato competition; also that a euchre party would be held in the Mauriceville East Hall on Saturday. Members were requested to give this function whole hearted support. A Bring and Buy stall would be held at the October meeting. Members were reminded that their contributions for the soldiers’ parcels fund were now due and should be paid to Mrs Baine this month.
The best bloom competition was won by Mrs Trass with Mrs Cameron second and Mrs Palmer third.
The meeting was then held in the form of a Danish social afternoon. Amusing competitions which were held during the afternoon were won by Mrs Larsen. Mrs Larsen delighted those present with selections of Danish tunes played on the accordion. Afternoon tea, served by the Mauriceville West ladies, was a feature of the afternoon. The afternoon tea consisted entirely of Danish cooking and Danish coffee and was enjoyed immensely by all. Mrs Spackman thanked the Mauriceville West ladies and congratulated them on the enjoyable afternoon. Mrs Nikolaisen suitably replied. Personal. Mrs Nikolaisen has left to spend a short time in Auckland. Miss D. Palmer, Te Awamutu, spent the weekend with her parents, Mr and Mrs R. Palmer.
