ANNIVERSARY MESSAGES. APPRECIATION OF DEVOTED SERVICE. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, September 3. The following message has been sent to the Fleet: — “The Board of the Admiralty wishes to express to the officers and men its sincere appreciation for the devotion to duty and cheerfulness for which the work of the Royal Navy has been remarkable during the past year. The Fleet hajnot only demonstrated its fighting spirit in no uncertain manneron every occasion that the enemy has given it an opportunity, but the pel sonnet have shown over many months endurance and determination which have enabled the ships to be maintained at sea for a greater part of the time than, had ever been contemplated. “We have many difficult times ahead of us. but with the ever-increasing strength of the Fleet we look forward with confidence to the future. In a message to the Army on the anniversary of the outbreak of hostilities, the Secretary for War (Mr Eden) said: "We look forward to the day which we are convinced is not far distant, when the Army, brought to full strength both in manpower and equipment, will combine with the sea and air forces in an offensive which will set our country and our cause on the final road to victory.”
