DRIVERS’ LICENCES
NEW REGULATIONS IN FORCE.
TESTS NECESSARY IN EVERY
CASE.
Under regulations now in force motorists who previously held driving licences and who failed to renew them by August 31 have to be re-examined before a new licence will be issued. Following the end of the last licence year on May 31, applicants for renewal of drivers’ licences, if under 70 years of age, have been required to pass a test in traffic law before a new licence was issued. Now, expired licences for practical purposes are cancelled licences and motorists will be required to be retested as a driver as well. On the last day or so of August many motorists who were holders of licences last year renewed them before the driving test applied, but m future, tests will be necessary in every case. There was no great rush in Masterton for renewals but in other centres as many as 600 were handled on Friday last.
