AMATEUR BILLARDS

NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP. WON BY S. MOSES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. September 2. S. Moses (Wellington) beat A. E. Redmond (Gisborne) in the final game of 1500 up to decide the New Zealand amateur billiards championship. Both players had been successful in three previous matches; Moses had beaten V. Choat, R. B. Walker and A. Twohill, and Redmond had beaten A. Albertson, J. Campbell, and R. Carrick, the 1939 title-holder. Moses has held the championship on two previous occasions. Redmond is a young player whose style should improve with the experience he has gained. Beginning confidently, Moses always led his opponent in the first session, and at the end of that evenings play the score was Moses 750 (in hand), Redmond 635. On resuming foi’ the final session, Moses continued to make many useful breaks, and at the conclusion of the game he had 344 points to spare, and was averaging 11. Scores and breaks were: Moses 1500 (30, 31, 31, 36, 37, 37, 38, 38, 40, 41, 41. 42, 44, 48. 57, 57, 59, 75, 76); Redmond, 1156 (31, 32. 34, 38, 40. 42, 44, 46, 65).
