HARRIER ACTIVITIES
MASTERTON CLUB. TRAINING RUN. On Saturday. members of the Masterton Harrier Club held a training run over nine miles. The trail led over mixed country embracing the Te Ore Ore district and over the golf links hills twice. As a mark of respect for the late Charlie Talbot, who was one of the 'club's finest runners, members wore black ribbon and ran past his late home on their return journey. KIATERE CLUB. A CLOSE FINISH. On Saturday the members of the Kiatere Harrier Club held a friendly run, both senior and juniors running together. No trail was laid and the runners followed the leaders who set a hot pace most of the time. During the afternoon’ members practised negotiating fences and gates under the guidance of the club captain, W. MacDonald. The trail eventually led past the Solway School, along the river bank and then past the aerodrome. Thence through several paddocks crossing Manaia Roaet, more paddocks and coming out through South Road and Devon Street. A run in over the last half-mile resulted in a close win for R. Searancke from N. Jacobsen, who was followed by L. Frances with W. MacDonald and L. Bird dead-heating for fourth place. So far nothing has been definitely arranged about the trip to the Olympic Club in Wellington and should this not take place a trailing run, in preparation for the 10-mile district championship on September 14, will be held.
