COURSING

WAIRARAPA CLUB’S MEETING

SEASON CONCLUDED. PROCEEDS FOR PATRIOTIC FUNDS. At the Akura Plumpton on Saturday before a fair attendance of spectators, the final events of the season were decided by the Wairarapa Coursing Club.

Good coursing was seen during the day, when the open stake winner (for Mr G. A. Vincent’s trophy) proved to be Kiatere, who showed her qualities as a class performer. She outpaced and outworked the opposition to come through an easy winner. The Maiden Stake (Mr S. Barber’s trophy) was won by Our Biddy, who ran her best to date. She also showed too much speed for her rivals. When it came to working the hare she was always superior.

The meeting was excellently controlled and a feature during the running was the sound judging of Mr L. M. Archer and even slipping of Mr R. McEwen. During the afternoon tea adjournment, opportunity was taken by the president, Mr J. Bradbury, to present Mrs W. S. Buick with a cheque for £5 5s as a slight appreciation of her generosity in allowing the club the use of her grounds. Mr W. Buick who accepted the cheque of her behalf, said it was the wish of his mother that the club should take the cheque back and put it with the amount the club was handing over to the patriotic fund.

Members of the ladies’ committee were also presented with a momentc in appreciation of their good work throughout the season. The recipients were Mesdames S. D. Geary, L. M Archer. W. L. Jensen, R. Wilton, S. Kjar, W. Williams, J. Hare and J. Hanley. The hon. judge and treasurer. Mr S. D. Geary, was also presented with a fountain pen for his work during the season.
