Sergeant Winston Jones, Auckland, is visiting his parents. Mr and Mrs H. J. Jones, Renall Street, Masterton. The death occurred at Hamua yesterday of a well-known resident, Mr William Frederick (“Dad”) Peters, at the age of 76 years.

The death has occurred in. Dunedin of Mr Alexander Macpherson, in his eightyfifth year. He was well known as a former Government dairy inspector.

Messrs C. Morgan (Wanganui), C. Fraser, J. Boult, L. Shanahan, J. Ronald (Wellington), F. Clark, G. Stevens (Palmerston North), have booked in at the Hotel Midland, Masterton. Pte. A. C. Gunther (“Jim”), who

left with the third. Echelon, is the only son of Mrs G. Gunther, Masterton, and the late Mr A. C. Gunther. Mrs C. L. Osborne and Mrs N. McKeown, of Masterton, are sisters.

Mr P. C. Sapsford, secretary of the Queensland Bowling Association, died in Brisbane on August 21. He was 71 years of age and had occupied the position for a record term of 33 years. He was well known to many New Zealand bowlers.

The ballot held last week for the election of wool-growers' representatives on the New Zealand Wool Council resulted in the re-election of the four sitting members: Sir William Perry. Masterton; H. D. Acland. Christchurch, Lachlan Maclean, Hastings; and G. C. Warren, Darfield. Steps are now being taken to have the names of

these men submitted to his Excellency the Governor-General for appointment pursuant to section 3 (2) (b) of the Wool Industry Promotion Act, 1936.

Another of New Zealand’s pioneers. Mr Jason Harmer, died at his residence in Wellington, recently, at the age of 87. He came to the colony’ 66 years ago with other immigrants in the Waimate. Mr Harmer was a bricklayer by trade, and during the whole of his working life was employed by

the Public Works Department on railway- construction, chiefly on tunnels. He worked on many tunnels in the South and North Islands. He retired nearly’ 20 years ago. He was a member of St Thomas’s Anglican Church for a long period and served as a vestryman for 31) years.
