Larwood Shapes Well.
Tolaga made an exhibition of the hurdle field at the Combined Hunt Clubs meeting at New Plymouth on Saturday. Tolaga took the lead a mile from home and as the race progressed he drew further ahead, winning by five lengths pulling up. He jumped' well except at one fence where he got too close in. Larwood, having his first race as a hurdler, jumped greenly, but his pace on the fiat assured him of second money which he took with a margin of five lengths from War Lap who could not muster the pace in the middle stages of the race. Car Leaf was fourth. Prinihia assisted with the pace for half a mile, but was soon beaten. Kaiwaka went a poor race. He jumped badly and at the end of a mile was so far back last that Mcßae eased him up. First Win for Two Years. Autosweep scored his first win for two years when he came home with a solid run to beat, the favourite, Eupatrid, in the Waihi Handicap at the Combined Hunt Clubs meeting at New Plymouth on Saturday. Autosweep was a long way back last with half a mile to run. the leaders at this stage being Eupatrid and Roeon from Te Ore and All Bunsby with Stratford.moving up on the turn. Te Ore moved up to Eupatrid at the distance, but Eupatrid had her measure and looked a certain winner till Autosweep put in his claim out on the track and won by half a length. Te Ore was a close third and Gitana Lass finished well for fourth. Stratford's run. petered out half a furlong from home and he was fifth. Three lengths further back Roeon just headed the other two runners. Roeon stopped very quickly. #
