WOMEN’S DIVISION
MAURICEVILLE EAST BRANCH.
PATRIOTIC ACTIVITIES. (“Times-Age” Special.) Miss Heckler presided over the Women’s Division of the Farmers' Union meeting held in the Mauriceville East Hall. There was only a fair attendance of members. Miss Heckler read a memo from headquarters regarding the raising of funds for fighting planes and stressing the importance of planes in war operations. All members were urged to give quickly and as liberally as their means allowed. A subscription list was opened and the secretary was authorised to receive donations.
Miss Heckler, Miss Dagg and Mrs Trass reported on the patriotic activities of the sub-branch meetings held in their respective districts, each being busy sewing. About 140 garments are ready to be forwarded to the Lady Galway Guild. A parcel of small pillows was also given to Mrs Forsberg, president of the Mauriceville branch of the Red Cross Society. It was decided to adhere to the decision that the branch meet only once in every three months; each sub-district to continue holding meetings monthly. The resignation of Mrs Duncan as hon. secretary of the library was received with regret and Mrs Baine was appointed to the position. The posi-y tion in connection with the library was reported to be very satisfactory. The competitions resulted as follows:—Best bloom: Mrs W. Cheetham, 1; JVlrs Trass and Miss Dagg (equal), 2. Wandering shilling: Mrs J. Wright. Afternoon tea was served and the meeting closed with a vote of thanks to Mrs W. Cheetham for having provided the tea.
