“COBBER” KAIN
So young a lad, just twenty-two We watched his rise to fame. And all our hearts grew warmer When we mentioned "Cobber's" name. The Messer, feared his onslaught. The Dornier turned its tail. If they thought this gallant airman Was hot upon the trail. Danger seemed to draw him As a moth is drawn to light. Where enemies were thickest, He was always in the fight. On the list of Empire heroes Is New Zealand's flying ace. Smiling, daring and courageous. In our hearts he finds a place. Where airmen get together, Round the hangar or the ’plane, They shall tell the thrilling story Of their comrade "Cobber" Kain. —A. EDWARDS.
