CARTERTON SALE
FAT AND FORWARD COWS IN DEMAND.
Messrs Wright Stephenson and Company, Limited, report:— Fair yardings of stock were forward to an average attendance of buyers at the sale conducted in Carterton yesterday. The few pens of sheep offered made very good values, as also did the short yarding of pigs. Fat and forward cows sold at well up to late rates, but the springing cows and heifers offered were for the most part of inferior quality, and met with only fair competition. Prices are as follow: —
Sheep: Prime wethers, 36s to 40s: light, 29s 6d to 32s 6d; prime heavy ewes, 33s 6d to 355; lighter, 29s 6d to 31s 6d; stores, 14s 6d to 15s 8d; fat hoggets, prime, 26s to 30s 6d; medium. 21s to 22s 6d; wether hoggets, 18s 6d to 21s 6d; ewe hoggets, 23s 6d to 26s Bd. Cattle: Forward-conditioned cows, £5 8s to £7; stores, £3 to £4 8s; culls. 20s to 28s 6d; heifers, poor quality. £3 Is to £3 17s; springing heifers, to £10; late calvers, £5 10s to £6 10s; springing cows, £8 to £ll 15s; late calvers, £6 5s to £7 ss.
