ANOTHER STRIKE
THREATENED IN N.S.W. COAL MINES HOURS OF ENGINE-DRIVERS IN DISPUTE. MINERS MAY BE THROWN IDLE. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.30 p.m.) SYDNEY. This Day. The coalmining industry is threatened with another strike as the result of a dispute about the hours that engine-drivers should work during the weekend. About 850 engine-drivers are affected, but if they ceased work about 14.000 miners will be thrown idle. The organiser of the Federated Engine Drivers and Firemen’s Association, Mr H. Sutherland, has sent a circular to sub-branch secretaries and delegates, telling them to instruct en-gine-drivers and firemen that unless their employers gave a written assurance that they, would recognise the six hours as a full working shift on Saturdays and Sundays no member was to present himself for work at the weekend. The men at present work six-hour shifts at the weekend and are paid for eight hours’ work.
