OPTIMIST CLUB
MEETING IN MASTERTON LAST NIGHT
PRESIDENT FAREWELLED.
SERVICES FITTINGLY ACKNOWLEDGED.
The weekly meeting of the Masterton Optimist Club was held in the Y.M.C.A. rooms last night. Chief Optimist M. Daniell presided over a large attendance of members. The period following tea was taken up by a "club night." A lengthy list of fines was levied by Sheriff E. J. Esler and provided amusement and benefited the charitable fund.
All joined heartily in a community sing. Optimist Trevor Hicks being the pianist. Prior to the close of the meeting opportunity ws taken to extend a fitting farewell to Chief Optimist Murray Daniell, who has accepted a position in Wellington. In making a presentation to Mr Daniell, Optimist M. Finlayson expressed his regret that the club was losing the services of its president, as he had kept the club going for several years through good and lean times. Optimists J. Duckworth, Esler, Daysh, and W. Lee referred to Mr Daniell’s excellent services in the interests of the club and expressed regret at his departure. In returning thanks Mr Daniell stated that he had always believed that the Optimist Club was capable of being a power for good in the community and a strong part of the Y.M.C.A. organisation. He urged members to carry on with the work and to try and increase the membership. He considered that the present season had been a particularly good one, largely owing to the efforts of the executive and in particular, Messrs W. H. Lee and P. Lee.
Chief Optimist Daniell was accorded musical honours.
