FEATHERSTON
MAGISTRATE’S COURT MONTHLY SITTING. ("Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly sitting of the Magistrates’ Court judgment was given ten plaintiff in the following cases: V. Vennell v L. Stewart., claim £6 Ss tkt. cost:, £1 3s; C. Bargii v D. Reedy ’ £:> 2s, costs 18s. solocitor’s fee 15s 6d. W. Workman. A. Chappell. Vivian Boyd and Eric Kingy were charged with having been in possession of intoxicating liquor near a dance hall. In the case of Chappel the police pointed out that ho was a victim of circumstances as he had met several friends in Grey town who were coming to the dance, but had run out of benzine. Chappell obliged them by bringing them to Featherston in his own car. However the Magistrate pointed out that Chappell was in the same position as a taxi driver who drove a passenger or passengers in possession of drink into a prohibited area. Each accused was fined £2 with costs. On similar charges K. Fenwick, Harold Muir, Reginald Lawrence and Mark Wilde were each fined £2 with 12s costs.
In the case of Clifford Bambury and Russell Webley who were charged with having been in possession of intoxicating drink at a dance hall, both accused wrote admitting the circumstances. Each was fined £1 with 10s costs.
For having driven at a greater speed than 30 miles per hour through, the Main Street Kathleen Norah Levin. James Clements, Richard Geo Smith, and Charles W. Ansford were each fined £2 with 10s costs.
Frederick Croft was charged with having driven a motor cycle and not being the holder of a driver's licence. He was fined 10s with 10s costs. For having ridden a bicycle on the footpath Sally Joyce was fined 10s. Golf Club. The following were the best cards handed in for the stableford competition held on Saturday: L. Benton 21-12-33; A. White 22-11-33; H. Bloxam 21-10-31; H. Neilson 14-17-31; H. McCarty 18-12-30; J. McCallum 19-10-29. Wrestling. The Featherston Wrestling Club is still carrying on despite the war. Several of its members are overseas while others are in Camp. Mr McLeod’s pupils will engage in a tournament at Featherston shortly against Mr George Walker's school of wrestlers. The proceeds of the tournament will go towards the Wellington Provincial Patriotic Fund. '
