The death occurred at Greytown yesterday, of Mrs Catherine Crawley, wife of Mr Owen Crawley, at the age of 50 years.

Mr H. M. Flaws, patrol officer for the Wairarapa Automobile Association, who has been an inmate of the Masterton Hospital, has been discharged from the institution, and is progressing satisfactorily towards recovery.

Captain F. W. G. McLeod, conductor of the Palmerston North City Silver Band, and formerly of Masterton, has been appointed musical adjudicator for the South Auckland Brass Bands’ Union contest, to be held next Easter.

The following were weekend guests at the Prince of Wales Hotel (Masterton): Messrs S. A. Lee (Hastings), E. Mullen (Lower Hutt). George Drummond, G. Delaney, R. Cole, J. Read. A. Humphrey, H. S. Lawson. H. Freeman (Wellington).

Mr J. F. McKendry, died at Christchurch on Saturday. He was proprietor of McKendry's Hotel. He was previously in Branson's Hotel, Dunedin. He owned a number of trotters, including Logan Chief and Belinda. In his early days he was a prominent footballer and president of the Athletic Football Club.

According to the London “Christian World,” Dr Maude Royden, the noted woman leader and founder, with Dr "Dick" Sheppard, of the Peace Pledge Union, has renounced the pacifist views she has held since 1914. She says that she has come to realise that there is one thing worse than war, and that is Nazism.

A well-known farmer in the Ongaonga district, Hawke’s Bay, Mr Alexander Mackie, has died in Te Awanga at the age of 77 years. Mr Mackie was born in Forfarshire. Scotland, and came to New Zealand 56 years ago. He took up farming at Forest Gate, Ongaonga. and after 32 years there he retired to live in Te Awanga.

The funeral of the late Mr C. M. M. Falk, which took place in Masterton this morning, was largely attended by returned soldiers and the general public. The Rev Father Moore officiated at St Patrick's Church and at the graveside. Wreaths were sent, besides many from private individuals, by the Masterton Milk Vendors' Association and the officers and members of the Loyal Masterton Lodge of Odd Fellows. Messrs G. Dean. G. S. Cooper. F. J. Cooper. M. Falk. F. J. Bell and J. Collins were the pall-bearers.
