The adjourned inquest concerning the death of Russell Wallace, who lost his life as the result of being blown out to sea in a dinghy off Tora Station on February 25 last, was held yesterday. Evidence was given by Clement Henry Wilson, manager of Tora Station, that he had seen deceased in the station dinghy about half a mile off shore. He was about to leave for Tuturumuri, but received a message that the dinghy appeared to be going out to sea. When the boat was about five miles off shore it had no one in it. He informed the police at Featherston and at Wellington. An aeroplane came up and flew over the boat and he was informed by the pilot of the machine that there was definitely no one in the boat. He patrolled the beach but never found any trace of Wallace or the dinghy. Royden William Nicholas, rabbiter at Tora Station, said that he had warned Wallace not to go out in the dinghy as a strong wind was blowing off shore. He was a headstrong youth who would not accept advice. Constable Prussing said that he received a telephone message from Mr Wilson that Wallace had gone fishing and had been blown out to sea. PilotOfficer Barker flew over the boat and discovered it was empty. A watch was maintained on the beach, but no trace of the body or dinghy had been found.

The Coroner (Mr T. E. Lang) returned a verdict that Russell Wallace had lost his life by being blown out to sea in a dinghy and drowned.
