MINIATURE RIFLES WEEKLY COMPETITIONS. ("Times-Age” Special.) The weekly competitions of the Carterton Miniature Rifle Club were held last evening. The shooting was good and three possibles and several 99's were registered. The scores were as follow: — Club aggregate and Press Cup: A. J. King, 100; W. Press, 99; H. Torrey, 99; L. Chew with a score of 298.
OBITUARY
MR ARTHUR HENRY KRAHAGEN. The death occurred at Parkvale yesterday of Mr Arthur Henry Krahagen, at the age of 79 years. The late Mr Krahagen had been in ill health for some months and his death was not unexpected. He was particularly well known in the Carterton district, where he had resided for about sixty years. The late Mr Krahagen was born at Nelson, arriving in the Wairarapa when the railway was opened only as far as Featherston. He resided for a time in Greytown before coming to Carterton, where he had lived ever since. He was a member of the contingent of volunteers who proceeded to Parihaka at the time of, the Maori troubles in that district. |,afViany years ago he purchased Mr D. ■<" Loasby’s boot business in Carterton and had conducted it ever since. Mr Krahagen was a keen racing enthusiast. He was a member of the Greytown Odd Fellows' Lodge and was the first treasurer of the Past Grands’ Lodge of Odd Fellows, relinquishing the position last month after having served for 30 years. His wife predeceased him many years ago and he is survived by one son, Mr A. Krahagen (Carterton) and three daughters, Mesdames P. Andrews (Parkvale) and H. Bain (Carterton) and Miss N. Krahagen (Carterton), besides four grandchildren. Messrs R. Krahagen and F. Krahagen (Masterton) are brothers, while another brother and a sister reside in Nelson.

The 1 second qualifying round for the men’s club championship will be played on the Carterton links on Saturday. The draw has been arranged as follows: — From No. 1 tee: Hart and Riggs; Wells and Clarke; Harrington and Brown; Whitburn and Colson. From No. 3 tee: Taylor and Goodin; Fisher and George; Hughes and Steel; Dudson and Taverner.

’ SOCIAL AT BELVEDERE \ —
MR AND MRS BEERE FAREWELLED. There was a very large attendance of settlers at the Belvedere School room last evening to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs G. W. Beere, who will leave shortly to take up their residence in the Marlborough Sounds. Dancing and community singing led by Mr C. Kiddie, on the piano accordeon, was indulged in. The music for the dance was provided by Mrs L. Rogers, of Dalefleld, and much appreciated. Extras were played by Mr and Mrs Drysdale, Greytown (piano accordeon) and Mr C. Kiddie (piano accordeon), Mr A. E. Reid made an efficient M.C. At an interval in the dancing, Mr W. E. Knowles, in an appropriate speech, on behalf of residents of the district, asked Mrs Beere to accept a handbag, and Mr Beere a fountain pen. “For they are jolly good fellows” was sung by those present. Mr Beere suitably replied. Supper was handed round, and the ginging of “Auld Lang Syne” brought an enjoyable gathering to a close.
“BATHROOM EVENING”
TENDERED TO MISS I. COOK
At the residence of Mr and Mrs R. Forbes, Kent Street, last evening a “bathroom evening” was tendered to Miss Cook in honour of her approach-
ing marriage with Mr A. Patterson on Saturday next. Mr Forbes asked the guest of honour to accept the many parcels brought by friends and Mr Patterson returned thanks on behalf of Miss Cook. Competitions and singing were indulged in and the good wishes of all present were extended to Miss Cook for a happy married life. Personal Items., Mi’ A. Ordish, of Dalefield, acting under medical advice, has entered Croydon Hospital for treatment. White Butterflies. White butterflies have already made their appearance in Carterton. Bobby Calves. Large numbers of bobby calves arc being conveyed to the Waingawa Freezing Works. Judging by this, many dairy farmers in the Wairarapa have their dairy herds already in profit. Competition Winner. The winner of the table knives won in a competition held recently by the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was G. Rae. No address was attached to the ticket.
