WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the local Women's Institute was held recently. Despite the inclement weather, the attendance was above the average. Mrs Spicer (president) presided. The competition for the best article made out of a flour bag was won bj Miss McKenzie, with Mrs H. Smith second. A word competition was won by Mrs. S. Mclntosh and Mesdames Smith anc Thomas tied for second place.
The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Mclntosh Senr., Leach. Linton and Grey.
Personal Items. A wedding of interest to local residents was solemnised at Karori. Wellington, recently, when Miss Kiclin;. was married to Mr Garth Rigg, formerly a well-known resident in this district. Mr J. Cowan is visiting relatives in the Gladstone district. Mr Noble Thompson is an inmate o'. a private hospital. Mrs Murphy, of Mt. Bruce, is staying with relatives here. Mr G. J. Gillies, who has been visiting the South Island, has returnee home. Mr Lysnar, who recently acquired Mr Harding’s property, will enter inti possession next month. Mr W. Innes who has been manager of the property will return to Masterton. Nurse Aitchison, who has been staying with her sister, Mrs Bird, has returned to Wellington. Cold Weather. The weather at the weekend was extremely wet and cold. Flowering fruit trees where exposed to the southerly elements have suffered. The hills are covered with a light mantle of snow. Dairying Season. The dairying season has commenced in this district, the receiving of milk at the local factory having started on Saturday. With cold weathet conditions now prevailing and much rain which has fallen during the past week there is a considerable amount of surface water lying about which will tend to impede the growth of pastures, especially on low lying levels. Native Development Scheme, J It is reported that a holding in the | Kohunui district is being brought under the Native Development Scheme. Euchre Party.
The local Patriotic Committee held a euchre party and dance in the hall on Saturday evening. There was a large attendance. The produce stall die good business, all the articles being disposed of. The various prizes were won by Mrs McKenzie, Miss McNaughton and Messrs J. Riwai and D. Kitney. The dance music was supplied by r local band, while Mr S. Mclntosh acted as M.C.
