EKETAHUNA

WOMEN’S DIVISION BIRTHDAY PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a large attendance at the eighth birthday party of the Eketahuna branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union. Mrs David Crewe (Pahiatua) gave a recitation which was much appreciated. A short community sing was entered into wholeheartedly. The song leader was Mrs W. Curry and Mrs G. A. Hansen presided at the piano. A telegram was received from the Eketahuna Reurned Soldiers’ Association wishing the branch “Many Happy Returns.” On her arrival, Mrs Paterson (the speaker for the meeting) was presented with a lovely bouquet by Mrs Curry, and those present sang "For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow.”

Mrs Paterson returned thanks for the warm welcome extended to her. The president, Mrs C. Welch, then formally introduced Mrs Paterson, who gave an interesting talk on impressions of England just before the war. and two months after the outbreak.

Mrs Welch proposed a vote of thanks to Mrs Paterson, which was carried by acclamation.

Mr Max Smith sang several Scotch songs which were heartily encored. He also sang by special request, "There Will Always be an England." He was accompanied on the piano by Miss Muriel Smith.

Afternoon tea was served by members of the committee. The birthday cake- was provided by Mesdames D. Fraser and E. Albrechtsen.

Mrs David Crewe was asked to light the eight candles and Miss A. Anderson to extinguish them. Mrs Welch then cut the cake. A crystal vase was presented to Mrs Welch by the members of the branch as a small token of their appreciation of her work in the interest of the Division. Mrs Welch suitably acknowledged the gift.

The president, vice-presidents and visitors were each presented with pretty sprays. The bouquet and sprays .were the work cf Mrs Curry and Miss Betty Curry, who received a hearty vote of thanks by acclamation on the motion of Mrs S. M. George.

The gathering was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem.

P.ugby Football.

Next Saturday afternoon at Woodville, the Bush Rugby Union's third grade representative team will play a match against the Manawatu thirds. The following are the results of Rugby games played on Saturday:— Junior, Cowan Cup: Hukanui 10, Woodville 6. Third grade: Mangatainoka 6 Hukanui 3; Woodville 17, Eketahuna 0; Nireaha defaulted to Athletic. Personal Items. Mi- W. Tinsley, North Auckland, is visiting Mr and Mrs Stan Goss, Nireaha.

Mrs J. Hodgson, Feilding. is the guest of her parents, Mr and Mrs Bray. Hastwells.
