TWO-OCEAN NAVY
AND MECHANISED ARMY HUGE APPROPRIATION IN UNITED STATES. APPROVED BY BOTH HOUSES. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 9.10 a.m.) WASHINGTON, August 19.
The Senate Appropriations Committee has unanimously approved a 5,000,000,000 dollar supplementary National Defence Bill, providing for the construction of a two ocean navy and equipment for a mechanised army. The Bill has already been approved by the House of Representatives.
SUPPORT TO LIMIT IN BRITISH PROSECUTION OF WAR. URGED BY AMERICAN LABOUR LEADER. (Received This Day, 9 a.m.) BUFFALO, August 19. Mr William Green (president of the American Federation of Labour) urging full American support for Britain to shorten the war. declared: “We will never favour sending our sons to Europe's battlefields, but we can do many things without going to war. I urge that we go the limit, whatever that may be, in giving support to those who are fighting so heroically to have Democracy.”
