RED CROSS SOCIETY

COUNTRY DISTRICTS SUE-CENTRE ACTIVITIES TO CONTINUE. A meeting of the Country Districts Sub-Centre of the Red Cross Society, presided over by Mrs K. Groves, was held recently in the Country Women’s Club Rooms. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Burling. Wingate and Vowel], A motion was passed wishing Mrs A. C. Gawith a speedy recovery to good health.

The balance sheet of the recent Paddy's Market was discussed, and Miss N. Boddington and Mr K. Donovan were thanked for their untiring work in this connection.

With'regard to refugee sewing, knitting. hospital requirements, etc., it was unanimously decided that the branch carry on as usual with its work on the second and last Wednesdays in the month, as it was felt that the need for this work was just as great, and would eventually become greater. It was essential to build up reserve stocks, so that the branch would be prepared to meet any emergency whatever that might arise.

The work of the branch for the month was discussed. Five large cases of clothing had been dispatched, four to the Lady Galway Guild, Wellington, and one to the Fieldon Taylor Mission. Wellington. A parcel of mittens for soldiers had also been despatched. The branch wished to thank the following for donations and parcels, etc : Kopuaranga Social Club, proceeds from dance; Mrs M. G. Payne, Pine Street, Masterton. Peggy squares; Waihakeke School children. Peggy squares; Miss V. and Master B. McLaughlin; Miss B and Master C. Potter; Student Nurses’ Association; Te Wharau and Tyneside Golf Clubs: Rangitumau Settlers’ Dance Committee; Mr J. Ninnes and Mr Donovan for assistance given.
