BADMINTON
ST. MATTHEW’S V. CARTERTON COMBINED MATCH AND DANCE LAST NIGHT. AN ENJOYABLE GATHERING. In a return inter-club badminton match played at the State Theatre. Carterton. last night, the St. Matthew's Club beat Carterton Club by 16 matches to 3. Twenty members of the St. Matthew's Club made the trip and were hospitably entertained by the Carterton club members. All the matches were keenly contested and proved most enjoyable, both to those playing and to those looking on.
Supper was provided by the ladies’ committee of the home club. After the matches had been completed the hall was cleared for dancing. Excellent music was provided by Miss Jean Mackay (piano accordeon) and Mr Trevor Hicks (piano), and a pleasant time was spent. Ladies’ doubles: Mrs J. Dwane and Miss Peters lost to Misses N. Richards and B. Boyd, 2/11; Misses Pauling and Neich lost to Misses N. Yates and G. Baird, 4/15; Misses Pahl and R. Hopkins lost to Misses E. Russell and F. Roebuck, 5/15; Mrs Bruce and Miss Simmonds Jost to Misses M. Morton and A. Clarke, 5/11.
Men's doubles: Messrs J. L. Dwane and Reynolds beat N. W. Ninnes and C. J. Carle, 21/16; D. L. Taverner and S. Tatton lost to H. Volheim and W. L. Harrington, 13/15; Eves and Neich lost to I. Peters and R. Peters, 8/15; Inder and Munro lost to N. W. Cameron and R. Doggett, 5/15; King and Tatton beat K. Forrest and T. Hicks, 15/7.
