PLUNKET SOCIETY
MEETING OF MASTERTON BRANCH.
The monthly meeting of the Masterton branch of the Plunket Society-was held in the Plunket Rooms yesterday afternoon. There were present Mesdames J. Caselberg (in the chair), J. C. Broad. C. A. Carmine, J. M. Coradinc, H. H. Daniell, E. G. Eton, A. H. Falloon, J. V. Gordon, N. Irwin. T. Jordan. W. A. Michael, P. Nathan, E. G. Norman, J. D. O'Connor and C. T. Richardson. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames D. Donald, S. L. P. Free (hon secretary), T. W. Wardell. I. Bunny and E. Sortain Smith. The nurse's report for the month of July was as follows: Visits to office, adults 412, babies 412, pre-school children 31, telephone 123: total 978. Visits to homes, new cases 50, old cases 161: total 211. Pre-school children seen in homes, 15. New cases for month (town) 19. Outstations: Annedale, Riversdale and Homewood. 1 visit; Tinui and Langdale. 2 visits. Mauriceville subbranch: Kopuaranga. Mauriceville East and West. 2 visits; Ihuraua Valley, 1 visit. Pre-natal section, total 27.
Accounts amounting to £72 2s 4d were passed.
A letter was received from Dominion Headquarters stating that the biennial conference had been postponed. A circular from Headquarters dealt with the Women's War Service Auxiliary. A letter was received from Mrs P. Fraser in reply to an inquiry about the price of oranges. It stated that the matter had been referred to the Minister of Marketing. Members of the committee reported having visited the wives of soldiers who are on active service.
It was also reported that on the preceding day the president, Mrs J. Caselberg, accompanied by Mesdames J. D. O’Connor, T. C. Richardson, and Nurse Cocker had visited Pahiatua to attend the 21st birthday of the Pahiatua branch of the society. Mrs Caselberg gave a talk on Plunket work. There was a very large attendance of mothers and babies and a most enjoyable afternoon was spent.
Thanks are due to Mrs Dalzicl for three dressing jackets and Mr N. Lee for a bag of white pine (further donation).
After the business of the meeting had concluded Nurse Humphries gave a very interesting account of the refresher course she took at the Dunedin Karitane Hospital in May last—a course attended by twelve Plunket nurses from various parts of the Dominion. from Auckland to Invercargill. The last refresher courses of the kind were held in 1935, but it is hoped to hold, another in November next.
