In a return table tennis match played at Greytown on Tuesday night, the | Featherston Table Tennis Club defeated the Greytown Methodist Club by 14 sets, 32 games to 13 sets, 29 games. SOLDIERS ENTERTAINED TAUHERENIKAU GATHERING During the weekend the Tauhereni- ■ kau Patriotic Committee held a gathering at the residence of Mrs Q. Donald, when Privates A. Reed, M. Nix and G. Sparkes and Lance-Corporal W. Sadler were each presented with a parcel containing useful knitted comforts, also handkerchiefs, shaving cream and sweets. Mrs Donald (president) in making the presentation wished them God Speed and all good wishes. Parcels were also sent to Aircraftsman W. Reed, Woodburne, Blenheim and to Corporal J. Sadler. Rbngotai.

GOLF STABLEFORD MATCH. A stableford match was played at the Gumgrove links by the lady members of the Featherston Golf Club yesterday afternoon. The results were: — Miss M. Ruane 1, Mrs McCarty 2, Mrs A. White 3 Reduced handicap, Miss Ruane. NEW SCHOOL ARRANGEMENTS FOR OPENING. A special meeting of the home and school association was held on Tuesday night, when the school committee was also present, to discuss arrangements for opening of the new school. Miss Card presided over a good attendance. It was resolved to install a wireless in the new school. It was decided that on opening day afternoon tea be provided by parents and committee. A sub-committee was set up to complete the arrangement when the opening date is decided on. The sub-committee appointed was: Miss Card, president of the home and school association, Mr J. W. Holland chairman of the School Committee, and Mr F. S. Hayes, headmaster. To raise funds it was decided to hold euchre evenings in the Anzac Hall, beginning next week, Mr Lowell to be in charge. A sum of £lO has been donated by the Home and School Association for the purchase of books for the school library. This, with Government subsidy. would amount to £2O. A sum of £1 has been given by the Home and School Association as the school levy to the Wairarapa Primary School Rugby Association to defray expenses of the two selected players, D. Simm and R. O’Neal, of the Featherston Primary School. The contractors, Messrs Trotman and Son commence on Friday to convert the infant room at the present school into a science laboratory for the high school department. Personal. Mr David Shepherd leaves tonight for a visit to Dunedin and Christchurch. Mr and Mrs J. A. Card. Masterton. and Mr and Mrs R. G. McKenzie, Ballance, were visitors to Featherston yesterday and were the guests of Mr J. W. Card.
