COUNTY AFFAIRS

WAIRARAPA SOUTH COUNCIL MONTHLY MEETING. ELECTION AT USUAL DATE FAVOURED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa South County Counci was held in the County offices, Carterton, this morning.

Mr F. Court, County chairman, presided and there were present Councillors M. McGregor, C. A. Cameron, L. S. Gallon. A. E. Reid, A. Cameron and E. W. Allen. Apologies for absence were received from Councillors Jas. Strang and W. A. Renall. The treasurer reported a credit balance at the Bank of New Zealand of £959 Ils Bd. Receipts since last meeting totalled £1059 5s lid.

Accounts amounting to £2540 8s Id were passed. The chairman referred to the illness of the County Clerk, Mr E. T. Beaven, who had been ordered to hospital for an operation. It was resolved that a letter of sympathy be forwarded to Mr Beaven. wishing him a speedy recovery to health again. It was reported Mr Beaven was making steady progress.

The monthly reports of the Taratahi and Carrington water race overseer were adopted.

Traffic Inspector C. H. Nicholson’s report was read and confirmed.

Mrs A. M. Budd was given permission to remove trees from a property taken for road purposes by the County Council.

It was resolved that the chairman and Councillors Reid. Gallon and M. McGregor wait upon Mr Bubb regarding arrangements for the purchase of land for a half chain road to connect up Mr Oates’s property with Mr Budd's. The committee has power to act.

Correspondence from the Hon W. E. Parry, Minister of Internal Affairs, was received regarding the rehabilitation of British refugees and asking the local committees to give the proposal their earnest consideration. Il was decided that the chairman attend, a meeting of the Rehabilitation Committee and arrange all that was necessary regarding advertising for applicants. etc.

11 was resolved, on the motion of Mr M. McGregor, that the Wairarapa South County elections should take place as usual. This was the opinion generally of councillors. (Left Sitting.)
