INVASION BY AIR
PARACHUTES IN BRITAIN
SUGGESTION OF LANDINGS NOT CONFIRMED.
APPARATUS OF WRONG TYPE.
(British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 9.25 a.m.) RUGBY, August 14
Although German parachutes have been found in Britain during the last few days authoritative quarters state that there is no confirmation of the suggestions made in some localities that parachutists, using the word to mean enemies, dropped as in Holland, have arrived. Indeed it is pointed out that the parachutes found are not of the type used by that kind of parachutist.
FIND BY SHEPHERDS
SIXTEEN PARACHUTES.
MILITARY CORDON PLACED ROUND AREA.
(Received This Day, 1.15 p.m.) LONDON, August 14
Scottish shepherds found 16 open parachutes in a district over which a large plane was seen flying yesterday. The military authorities placed a cordon around the area and soldiers and Home Guards vigilantly searched all pasing vehicles and checked identification. One driver, emphasising the thoroughness of the precautions, said he had been stopped 20 times in eight miles.
