STATE HOUSES
- COMPLAINT BY LABOUR PAPER ALLOCATIONS IN AUCKLAND. REPLY BY MINISTER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. This Day. A denial that partiality was shown in the allocation of State houses was made by the Minister, Mr H. T. Armstrong. when replying to statements made in “The Standard.” It was stated that there was intense dissatisfaction among members of the Auckland Labour Representation Committee at the allocations and the paper demanded from the Minister the names of the committee responsible. It was also alleged that people with large families had been kept waiting for houses much longer than those with small families, in similar circumstances. The Minister said that if the Auckland Committee had any specific cases, he would be only too glad to make personal investigation, but he was satisfied that the allocations were being fairly made. He had investigated similar complaints and found them groundless. It was undesirable to make public the names of the allocation committee, which was formed of representatives of the State Advances Department, men who were I experts at. their job and in whom he had the utmost confidence.
