PRESSURE ON GREECE
REPORTED AXIS DEMAND RENUNCIATION OF BRITISH GUARANTEE. GENERAL METAXAS STANDS FIRM. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) LONDON, August 14. The Athens correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain says the Italian and German Ministers in Athens are reported to have sent a message to the Prime Minister, General Metaxas, suggesting that Greece formally renounce Britain’s guarantee of Greek independence and territorial integrity. High diplomatic quarters in Athens say General Metaxas has rejected the suggestion. A Rome message says authoritative circles denied reports that Italy intends to make territorial demands on Greece and Yugoslavia. These sources emphasised, however, that “Italy has taken a grave view” and again alleged that the Albanian subject, Daul Hoggia, was murdered by Greeks. TALKS IN MOSCOW LONDON, August 14. It is reported from Moscow that the Soviet Prime Minister and Commissar for Foreign Affairs, M. Molotov, received the Greek Minister to Moscow yesterday. M.
