OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS
POSTAL DELIVERIES (To the Editor) Sir.—ln Saturday's paper we read a letter regarding people putting letter boxes on their gates, for the convenience of the postman. How about in the case of an invalid or aged people who are unable to walk far and in another case, why is it that the postman doesn’t blow his whistle? It would save the householder many a run to see if the postman has been, as the postmen are changed on their rounds ever so often, some coming round at approximately 9.30 a.m. and others at 11 a.m. and hardly ever blowing their whistles. Just think of the saving to the poor housekeeper, in the miles she goes in a day. Thanking for you the space.—I am. etc..
INTERESTED. Masterton, August 10.
The Postmaster, Mr M. M. Simpson, to whom the above letter was referred, said that in the case of infirmity or sickness, if a request were made to the postal authorities, mail would be delivered at the house. There were standing instructions to postmen to blow their whistles and the authorities were always on the alert to detect any failure on the part of postmen to carry out that instruction, as it was appreciated that it was a great convenience to householders to know when the postman had called.
GOLFERS & MILK ZONING (To the Editor.) Sir. —"Disgusted’s" letter in Saturday's "Times-Age” was interesting. I understand that a party of golfers, burning with patriotic zeal, are going to play a match at Lower Hutt. Care should be taken that none of them get "bunkered” at Trentham. While writing, may I lodge a complaint about the milk zoning? I have no particular objection to the milk vendors making an extra £5 per month profit through the zoning system, but why, oh why, will my new milkman persist in spilling milk on my doorstep?—l am, etc., “GROWLER.” Masterton, August 10.
